There is that tendency lurking within your members. In your heart, or say, your mind, there is that prompting to be bitter or angry at the success, celebration, happiness or testimony of another. Your bestie is getting married, you think you are happy until you check with your flesh. Deep inside you feel jealous. That evil nature in every man strikes a chord; "You should be married first, but you don't even have a relationship". Your classmate got a job, you should be happy, but you don't know why you're not. Your former relationship partner (Ex if you like) got married after you broke up, "why should I be happy?" right? you see what I mean now.
Do you wish she never got married? Do you wish his fiancee jilts him and he comes running back to you? You can not help but not be happy, or too happy for them in such scenarios. There is that bad guy in everyone of us; the flesh. No matter the circumstances leading to your break-up, should you wish someone bad for a bad relationship you both had equal responsibility and opportunity to keep?
Why always you? why should it be you? "I was suppose to be first." C'mon! they are jubilating like this, if it is you now, we won't rest again.
"Why are they rubbing it on our faces as if we are any less? are they the first? what is the noise about? Rubbish!"
All these are speakings of a heart with the abundance of jealousy, envy and selfishness.
Out of the abundance of the heart/mind, the mouth utters speech.
You have allowed the promptings of the flesh to take root. That one prompting hit your emotion. Your emotion sponsored these speakings. It is selfish to think that you should rejoice or be successful all the time than any body else. It is selfishness to think you should come first for everything all of the time before every one.
WHY CAN'T YOU BE HAPPY FOR ME?
You may have tried. Maybe not. Maybe you just can not be. It is not in your nature to be happy for every dick and harry that celebrates their achievement. Whether you are in obvious competition or not, the self life, ie., your flesh cannot produce anything good. It is not capable of pleasing God. It will not allow you to rejoice with those who...and mourn with those who... Instead, it would like to do the opposite. If you do not master your flesh, you will see yourself happy when others, especially supposed enemies fail; happy when you're not the only one who got demoted although you deserved it more than anyone. You'd be happy if your next door neighbor does not have some basic amenities that you do, and so on.
This is just a build up to witchcraft. The flesh is okay with witchcraft.
You can not be happy for me because it is not in your nature. It is in the nature of the natural man(the flesh) to be in competition and contention with anyone else.
SOLUTION
The way to overcoming the challenge of these promptings is that as soon as you perceive them, shun it immediately. Quench it with the word of GOD.
"Be silenced o flesh. You have no say in my life and Destiny. You are crucified in Jesus name."
Go on ahead, rejoice with them that rejoice. And if you find it a struggle, indeed pretentious, go to your prayer point and thank God for the successes of the celebrants. Pray that it will not be reversed or lost. Then Thank God because yours is coming.
If the successes of the celebrants is questionable, for example, suspected fraud or proceeds of crime, pray thus;
"Lord, thank you for your blessings that makes rich... Every good gift comes... I am not pressured by the things in this life, to have them. Neither will I envy any one...I trust you to bless me in my time appointed. Thanks for taking sorrow away from that household. Lord, let your fear be established in them. Cause them to be established in righteousness and to turn from every wicked way. Their souls can not be lost to vanities and cares of life. Amen."
Prayer excuses us from bad thoughts, ill wishes, sin and the promptings of the flesh.
